StudioPress is Going Responsive

In case you have been living under a rock for the last year or two, a responsive design is one that automatically adapt to fit nicely on all screen sizes, mainly for the purpose of creating a better experience for phone and tablet users. With that said, StudioPress (maker of the popular Genesis framework for WordPress) will be taking a responsive approach to design from here on out.

They announced that their upcoming Genesis release will have a sample child theme that is responsive (try the demo on a mobile device or resize your browser window). Future Genesis child theme releases will also be responsove. And they’re not stopping there — older child themes will eventually be updated to be responsive. This is a huge development and given StudioPress’s influence, other theme shops are likely to take note and consider responsive design more seriously.

This decision by StudioPress was influenced by the Sara Cannon’s Responsive Web Design session at WordCamp San Francisco. See Brian Gardner’s blog post for iPhone and iPad screenshots.
